Join Nora Lawrence, Senior Curator at Storm King for a virtual presentation and discussion on Sarah Sze’s new outdoor commission, Fallen Sky, along with artist and collector advisor, Althea Viafora Kress ‘00GS. The presentation will include images of these epic interpretations of landscape.
To accompany Sarah Sze’s new outdoor commission, Fallen Sky, her immersive fifty-foot-long installation Fifth Season creates a portal through the Museum Building gallery. Both Fallen Sky and Fifth Season represent entropic forces in the landscape, where we reflect on the relationship of ourselves and nature and the presumed human ability to control it. The collage installation we will see refuses the impulse to present the natural world as comforting, coherent, or certain. Be led to see outside to the 36-foot-round Fallen Sky, framed by the mountains beyond. The exhibition takes the landscape as its subject - not a depiction of landscape, but rather a consideration of landscape in varying states – from growth to entropy.
There will be a Q&A session following the presentation and discussion.
