GARY GILSON, JOURNALISM ’61, IS PERFORMING HERE IN SEPTEMBER

Two dates for Gary Gilson's storytelling show — “You Don’t Have To Be Jewish . . . But It Couldn’t Hurt!” — have just been scheduled at the beautiful and intimate theatre in the Sabes Jewish Community Center in St. Louis Park. Sept. 19 and 20.

Since the show sold out at the JCC’s Humor Festival, Gary has added some great new stories. People of all backgrounds respond to this memoir-and-humor show with lots of laughter, nostalgia and — sometimes — tears, as they connect his stories to their own. Many photos and live music support the themes of his stories.

The memoir is based on Gary's having grown up surrounded by colorful characters who worked in carnivals with his father. His mother’s family was filled with show-business people, and he worked 30 years in television (5 Emmy Awards) in New York, Los Angeles and the Twin Cities with a slew of zanies, geniuses and frauds. All fodder for compelling stories that take you behind the scenes to reveal the way things really work (or don’t).

Performances at 7 p.m., Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20. Directions to the JCC at: www.sabesjcc.org      Parking is free.
